Carpanzano is an Italian municipality with 202 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza in Calabria. Carpanzano is the oldest municipality in the Cosenza surroundings. It is the penultimate least populated municipality in the Calabria Region. It is located southeast of Cosenza, and its territory is bathed by the Savuto river and included between 211 and 1210 meters above sea level.

History

Hit by the 1638 Calabria earthquake, the town was rebuilt as Carpansano, which later became Carpanzano over the centuries. During the years of World War II, three Polish Jewish refugees were confined in forced residence in Carpanzano. The internees were all released with the arrival of the Allied army in September 1943.

  • Mother Church of San Felice (1648-1660).
  • Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, also known as the Sanctuary of the Annunciation, built in the 14th century and rebuilt several times over time.
  • Church of Sant'Antonio, also known as the Cappuccini (17th century).
  • Former church of San Pietro, used as a museum of sacred art and peasant civilization.
